South Wales Electricity (SWALEC) is an electricity supply and distribution
company adopted by Scottish and Southern Energy plc (SSE) during the year 2000.
SSE, one of the UK’s premier suppliers of Gas and Electric energy, is composed of
Swalec in Wales, Scottish Hydro Electric in Scotland, Atlantic Electric and Gas and
Southern Electric in England. The group is serving more than 7.5 million customers in
a largest distribution group of UK. It is an FTSE 100 company. SSE also has a gas
storage capacity equalling 9% of the UK’s gas storage capacity. Also they generate
10% of the electricity being distributed in the country.

Special packages for priority customers

The company offers a package ‘energyplus Care’ to existing customers of
Swalec who are poor in health and income.They are offered a 20% flat discount
on fuel prices regardless of payment method. These customers are provided with free
advice on saving money. The company also offers some free energy efficiency
measures such as supply of low energy light bulbs, free fridge or discounted fridge
/freezer.
Eligibility: The company will asses the eligibility based on your income and
spending on energy. You can contact the company through 0800 622 838 and get
more information between 8 am to 6pm on Monday to Friday and 8am to 2pm
on Saturdays

Different packages and prices

Electricity General Domestic - This package has been designed for homes where
little electricity is used during nights.

Electricity Economy 7 - In this package the electricity is discounted for 7 hours
during each night. Suitable for home when the night consumption exceeds 15% of
total consumption.

Gas Standard - for homes with mains gas. There is a service charge on daily basis
and unit rate.

SWALEC off - No service charge is made in this package. The customer has to pay
for the actual usage. The rates are divided in to primary, secondary, and follow-on.
RSPB Energy tariff

Swalec offers RSPB green tariff, in association with Royal Society for Protection of
Birds. When a customer switches to Southern electric for both gas and electricity a
portion of the initial payment, ú20, is contributed to the RSPB. An additional
contribution of ú10 is also made to RSPB every year as long as the customer stays
with the company.
